ABOUT ART AND THE CITY

The Society for Art and the City (art and the city) aims to curate and highlight art in the public plazas, lobbies, and pedestrian realm of Calgary. In the effort to transform the collection of art works into a curated and engaging ‘gallery’ experience, the society develops and maintains a publicly accessible on-line catalogue of Calgary’s public art. While the catalogue provides information on art works, the society simultaneously collaborates with local partners to promote and organize urban interventions that stimulate the experience of public art in imaginative ways.

Through its collaborative approach and openness to discovery and innovation, art and the city acts as a creative forum for realizing shared agendas with its partners and collaborators. By way of celebrating and promoting Calgary’s public art in curious ways, it invites dialogue that continually explores and reinterprets the urban definition of our city.
